Beware when your "trusted contacts" ask for WhatsApp verification codes! Here's what's happening:
The scammer poses as a friend in need. They claim to have accidentally sent you their WhatsApp verification code and ask you to forward it back.
Here's the truth:
WhatsApp ONLY sends verification codes to verify the number where the login is attempted. If you receive an OTP (One Time Passcode), someone's trying to log into YOUR account!
What's really happening:
• They want to hijack YOUR WhatsApp account
• Your personal chats will be exposed
• They'll message your contacts asking for money
• Your business conversations are at risk
• Your privacy is compromised
Stay Safe! Follow these steps:
✓ Never share OTP codes - EVER!
✓ Enable two-factor authentication
✓ Always verify caller identity (call them directly)
✓ Report suspicious messages
✓ Warn your friends about this scam
